Tony Gonsolin might be out for the season. The Dodger right hander gave up a career high 10 earned runs and 5 homers in only 3 1/3 innings a couple of weeks ago, and after that game was placed on the injured list with right forearm inflammation. “It is unlikely that the 2022 all-star will return soon,” Dave Roberts, the Dodgers manager said. I agree with Dave Roberts because Gonsolin can’t afford to upset the team, like he did when he gave up those ten runs to the Marlins, especially with the postseason coming up. He may have given up those runs because he is aging, or he feels pressure to not upset his fans, his teammates, or Dave Roberts.
Gonsolin, who was injured last year for the last five weeks of the season because of a right forearm strain, as well as the first four weeks this of this year with a left ankle sprain, has been injured a lot. He will undergo an MRI test that should reveal the extent of the injury. The test should also show if he needs surgery. Gonsolin should have thought before he pitched that game, I think, because as we know he has had some bad luck with injuries in the past. I do not know for sure if he felt a little pain before the game, but the LA Times stated that he did. Gonsolin pushed through it using his adrenalin, and unfortunately ended up with a bad result.
There is a sad and huge impact from this. The good vibes in the dugout will probably be gone for a little bit because Gonsolin was a very funny guy, and that could lead to his teammates being a little off their game. Of course, the it also means the Dodgers lose a pitcher. Hopefully the Dodgers can power through this loss — if not, then I will be very sad.
