Hey everyone! A couple days ago the Phillies had an awesome moment, and it involves an interesting rookie named Weston Wilson! On Thursday night, Weston did something no Phillies rookie has ever done before he hit for the cycle.
That means he hit a single, double, triple, and a homer all in the same exact game! That's super hard to do, even for grown-up baseball players. Weston started the night playing outfield which was rare because another more experienced player, Austin Hays, usually gets that spot. So Weston got a chance to shine and boy he definitely did.
First, he hit a single and a triple in the 4th inning. The triple bouncing of the wall, and a bloop in field single. Then, in the 7th inning, he launched a big opposite field home run! The crowd went WILD! And he knew he was close.
But Weston wasn't done yet! He needed a double to complete the cycle, and with some help from a mistake by the other team (the ball bounced funny!), and a tip from Bryce Harper “Just keep running until you get to second”. He did it!
Everyone was so happy for him including his pregnant wife who was in the stands. This is only the 10th time ever that a Phillies player has hit for the cycle, and Weston is the first rookie to do it. He's joining a special club of other young players who've done the same thing this year.
Pretty impressive, huh?
Weston says he can barely remember what happened because it was all so exciting! Probably. This is a night he'll never forget, and neither will any Phillies fan who saw it!
I would keep an eye on Weston Wilson, because he's gonna be a star!
Cycle!!
